Sales of flowers went up in Pakistan in the run up to Eid-ul-Azha and New Year, but vendors here are awaiting Valentine's Day Feb 14 when business blooms. Flower merchants say the two festive occasions, celebrated Monday, are no match to the earnings on Valentine's Day when fragrant roses and gladioli are sold in huge quantities. That is when the three flower markets in Islamabad are thronged by the young and well off. "Previously our sales went up only on a few events such as Christmas. Now many events are celebrated such as Mother's Day and Father's Day. These have made our business better," Daily Times quoted a dealer as saying. A business gimmick is to dye the flowers to add to the variety of colours, a procedure that takes four-five hours.
