Burnham Institute for Medical Research (Burnham) has appointed Cyril Doucet as Vice President, Operations and Administration for Burnham at Lake Nona in Orlando, Florida. In that capacity he will be responsible for management of Burnham’s growing operations in Orlando as the institute prepares to move from their temporary facilities to their permanent Florida campus at Lake Nona in 2009. Prior to joining the Institute, Mr. Doucet served as the Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and Secretary-Treasurer at the Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake, New York. Earlier in his career, Mr. Doucet held positions as Assistant to the Senior Vice President of Laboratories at the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, and Vice President, Administration and Secretary-Treasurer at the Paper Research Institute of Canada in Montreal. Mr. Doucet received a B.S. from the University of Montreal, an M.S. from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. “Cyril Doucet’s extensive experience with nonprofit and academic medical research institutes enables him to easily step into his new role with Burnham,” said Karin Eastham, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “I know the Orlando community will extend a warm welcome to him as they have to all of us at Burnham.” Burnham Institute for Medical Research conducts world-class collaborative research dedicated to finding cures for human disease, improving quality of life, and thus creating a legacy for its employees, donors, and community. The La Jolla, California campus was established as a nonprofit, public benefit corporation in 1976 and is now home to three major centers: a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center; the Del E. Webb Center for Neurosciences, Aging and Stem Cell Research; and the Infectious and Inflammatory Disease Center. Today, Burnham employs more than 750 people and ranks consistently among the world’s top 20 research institutes. In 2006, Burnham established a presence at the University of California, Santa Barbara, led by Dr. Erkki Ruoslahti, Distinguished Professor. Burnham is also establishing a campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Florida that will focus on diabetes and obesity research and will expand the Institute’s drug discovery capabilities.
