CDW and CDW Berbee Enhance Customer Service by Combining Sales Teams

By: Government News

CDW Corporation, a leading provider of technology products and services to business, government and education, today announced changes in its sales organization that will make it easier for customers to interact with the company. The sales team at CDW Berbee, the company’s advanced technologies arm serving six Midwestern states, is being integrated into the CDW sales organization over the next several months. The organization will include engineers and specialists certified in advanced technology disciplines who work with customers to identify the right technology mix to meet their needs.

“As we combine these two sales organizations, customers will no longer have questions about which team to contact,” said John A. Edwardson, chairman and chief executive officer, CDW. “Customers have been asking us for greater clarity around this issue, and in true CDW fashion, we listened. This represents the next logical step in the integration of CDW Berbee.”

The advanced technologies sales team, under the leadership of Gregory L. Sliwicki, group vice president, will report to James R. Shanks, executive vice president. The advanced technologies engineers and specialists, led by Patrick J. Scheckel, senior director, will report to Kenneth B. Grimsley, vice president of strategic sales.

“With Jim’s leadership, CDW’s technology specialist teams have grown and contributed to the evolution of the company as a true provider of technology expertise, as well as products,” Edwardson said. “Now, as these groups unite with CDW Berbee’s advanced technology engineers and specialists, this new structure will better enable Jim and his teams to provide customers with a broad yet solid mix of technology know-how to meet a wide range of technology needs,” Edwardson said.

In addition, services delivery groups, led by Vice President of Services James J. (Norm) Lillis in CDW and by Senior Director Thomas DeCoster in CDW Berbee, will report to Paul S. Shain, senior vice president. Data center services delivery, led by Philip J. LaForge, director, will also report to Shain. This puts all of CDW’s post-sales, billable service delivery teams in one organization, allowing for a more coordinated approach to customers.

CDW also announced additional changes in its executive lineup. Marketing, Product and Partner Management, and Business Development departments will now report to Shain.

“The many years Paul has spent in the technology industry give him a keen understanding of our customers and their purchasing decisions, and he will bring that understanding to his work with the Marketing department,” Edwardson said. “Our Marketing group has done a great job of understanding our customers better so we can reach out to them in ways that are mutually beneficial.” Mark J. Gambill, vice president of marketing, adds Chief Marketing Officer to his title and will also report to Shain. Gambill remains on CDW’s Executive Committee.

“Paul has many years of experience in building solid relationships with key vendor partners like Microsoft, Cisco and IBM as president and CEO of Berbee. He will use his experience to help us build strong vendor partnerships across our portfolio as we continue to broaden our offerings into services and solutions,” Edwardson said. Matthew A. Troka, vice president of product and partner management, will report to Shain.

In a separate move, two executives have announced they have decided to leave CDW in the next several months. Harry J. Harczak, Jr., executive vice president, has decided to leave CDW as of the end of the year to begin the next phase of his life. Harczak joined CDW in 1994 as CFO. He was later promoted to executive vice president, leading the corporate sales force and the company’s business development efforts. Last year, Harczak’s responsibilities shifted from Corporate Sales to Marketing and Product and Partner Management, while maintaining his focus on business development. Harczak will transition his responsibilities through the end of the year and remain available to assist the company with select business development projects and other corporate matters as needed during 2008.

Barbara A. Klein, senior vice president and CFO, has chosen to leave CDW at the end of February. Klein joined CDW in 2002 as senior vice president and CFO. She guided the company through the implementation of various financial regulations and the complexities surrounding recent acquisitions. Klein plans to focus on board roles at other companies and additional new opportunities. CDW has begun an external search for a new CFO.

“I wish Harry and Barb well as they enter the next phase of their lives. Each of them has made significant contributions to CDW that will live on for years. We will miss them,” Edwardson said.
