Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31: Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Eid-ul-Zuha with traditional piety, but the execution of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein cast a shadow on the festive spirit in many places. Faithful congregated in mosques and Eid garhs to perform the namaz, where religious scholars reminded them of the triumph of unflinching faith and spirit of self-sacrfice over all worldly challenges. In most places, the Imams in their Eid message made sorrowful references to the execution of Saddam Hussein on the eve of Eid and led special prayers for him. In many places, women also participated in the namaz. Kerala Governor R L Bhatia, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy and Muslim League supremo Panakkad Sayid Muhammadali Shihab Thangal greeted people on the occasion.
