Two idols of the ancient 'Vairikhadakan' Devi Temple at Keezhur near Iritty, about 40 km from here, were found stolen, triggering panic among the local people, police said today. The theft was noticed in the morning by the priest as he entered the temple this morning. The theft of the one-and-a-half feet high idols of Devi and Deva, believed to have been installed over 200 years ago, had given a rude shock to the devotees and it was not clear whether the idols were made out of 'panchaloha' or any other material. The thieves had stolen the idols by breaking open the door of the sanctom sanctorum and tried in vain to break open a steel almirah kept inside the temple, they said.
