Sri Krishna Janmastami and Sri Krishna Leelotsav is being celebrated at the temple town of Udupi with great pomp and religious fervour, from today. The Temple reverberated with bhajans. The temple was decorated with flowers while the presiding deity, Lord Krishna, was decorated in the form of "child Krishna in the cradle" to mark the birth of the Lord today. Devotees were seen waiting in queue since morning in front of the temple to have "darshan" of the Lord. Flower vendors, who have camped in the main car street, were seen busy selling their stock of flowers. Police have made special arrangements in the city, as precautionary measure. Large number of devotees would offer "arghya" to the presiding deity at midnight tonight to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Sri Krishna Leelotsav, popularly known as "mosarukudige", would be held tomorrow during which the special car festival would be held. The clay idol of the deity will later be immersed in the holy tank "madhwa sarovar" on the occasion of the festival. Sri Vidyasagara Thirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Krishna mutt in his message exhorted the people "to purify their life and bring peace and prosperity."
