A four-year-old boy, who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom, returned home safely here today, police said. The boy, son of a pawn broker in north Chennai, disappeared while playing with friends near his house on Tuesday. The parents filed a missing complaint with police immediately and yesterday afternoon they received a ransom call. The abductors called eight times from different PCOs in north Chennai to demand a ransom of Rs five lakh. Police traced the last call last night to Gummidipoondi. Based on certain clues from the calls, special police teams narrowed on a particular residential area in north Chennai and started door-to-door combing operations in the early hours today. Following this intense operation, the abductors released the boy at an isolated spot near Manali Industrial estate and he was brought home by a passer-by, police said. Police was questioning the boy to identify the kidnappers and to find the motive behind the kidnap drama.
