Police here today discounted reports that a girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after watching a gruesome video of former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein's execution. Moon Moon Karmakar, a 15-year-old madhyamik examinee, used her scarf to hang herself from the ceiling of her residence at Khardah in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday, reports said today. District Superintendent of Police Parveen Kumar told PTI the teenager's suicide had "nothing to do with footage of Saddam Hussein's execution shown on TV". "Police talked to the girl's parents and learnt that there were some other reasons that drove her to take her life," Kumar said, adding no suicide note was found. The hapless father said his daughter had been suffering from depression, but refused to confirm that it was the footage of Saddam's execution that drove her to commit suicide. Reports earlier had suggested Moon Moon committed suicide after watching footage of the hanging of Hussein on TV.
