Madras High Court asks police to probe complaint Ambani and others

By: Tamil Nadu News

The Madras High Court today directed the city police to investigate a complaint filed by Chennai-based NEPC against 19 persons, including a top industrialist, and register a case if the allegations constituted a cognisable offence.

Hearing a petition filed by NEPC India Ltd Vice Chairman Rajkumar Khemka seeking a direction to the police to register the December 14 complaint given by him against 19 persons, including Anil Ambani and Systematix Corporate Services Ltd (SCSL)Director C P Khandelwal, Justice K N Basha directed the police 'to proceed in accordance with law and file a final report as expeditiously as possible if a cognisable offence is made out'.

The Judge directed the city Police Commissioner to appoint an officer of the rank of Inspector to go into the complaint which alleged that Southern Wind Farms Ltd (SWF), the purchaser of NEPC's wind energy division in January 2006, had failed to pay the agreed sale price of Rs 135 crore, besides clearing the corporation's liabilities of Rs 250 crore.

Claiming that besides the sale consideration, SWF was yet to clear some of the dues to the creditors, Khemka, in the petition, alleged that the respondents had forced him to sign blank documents and give power of attorney under the pretext that it would help SWF to raise funds to clear its dues.
