Eight prominent personalities have written another letter to President Pervez Musharraf urging him to quit his uniform and form a caretaker government consisting of judges of the Supreme Court three months before the next general elections. According to the Daily Times, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, former National Assembly speakers Syed Fakhar Imam and Elahi Bux Somro, former acting prime minister Balakh Sher Mazari, former deputy speaker Wazir Ahmad Jogazai, former NWFP governor Mian Gul Aurangzeb and former Balochistan chief minister Taj Muhammad Jamali signed the letter. Siddiqui said the letter was an effort to ensure that the results of the next general elections do not create a political crisis in the country. He said that elections held under the supervision of apex court judges would restore the people’s trust in the system of governance.
