Official commits suicide after being asked to spend money: Jaya

AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa today alleged that a government official had committed suicide as he was asked to spend money for making 'lavish arrangements' to welcome local administration minister M K Stalin to Dharmapuri on February 15.

In a statement here, she said lavish arrangements had been made to welcome Stalin who is visiting the area to inaugurate welfare schemes. She charged that the Deputy Director of Panchayats, Govindasamy, was asked to bear part of the expenditure.

When Govindasamy refused to do so, he was threatened by higher officials, following which he committed suicide, she alleged.

This incident had caused widespread anger among government employees, she added.
