PM, president invited to Chhattisgarh

By: India News

Chhattisgarh has invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to be part of the state's weeklong sixth anniversary celebrations of the state's founding beginning Nov 1.

Chief Minister Raman Singh has sent an invite to Manmohan Singh and hopes he will inaugurate the extravaganza. Kalam has been requested to preside over the concluding function Nov 7.

"The government is hopeful of getting a positive response from both the prime minister and the president," said a government spokesperson Saturday.

Chhattisgarh was carved out from Madhya Pradesh on Nov 1, 2000.

The progress, achievements and development of Chhattisgarh, the country's ninth largest state in area, will be highlighted during this period.

All government departments are to set up stalls at the Science College grounds - the main venue for the anniversary celebrations.
