SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 from Novell Now Available Through Concurrent

By: Computer News

Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ:CCUR), a leading provider of time-critical Linux® operating systems, integrated software and computer solutions for mission-critical applications, today announced SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 from Novell is now available through Concurrent. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 is the latest version of Novell's enterprise-class, open source real-time operating system for running high-performance, time-sensitive, mission-critical applications.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 was released by Novell on November 27, 2007 and includes the latest enterprise-hardened open source technologies that reduce system latency or delay and improve predictability, such as open source CPU shielding, priority inheritance, sleeping spinlocks, interrupt threads, high-resolution timers and the latest OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution for commodity high-speed interconnects, OFED 1.2.5.

Customers of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time also have the option to replace the standard open source real-time kernel with an enhanced real-time kernel from Concurrent. The enhanced real-time kernel includes Concurrent’s real-time processor timer shielding and other deterministic upgrades, including kernel tracing for use with the NightStar tools.

Customers of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time will also receive a trial copy of Concurrent’s popular NightStar debugging and analysis tools that may be purchased after the trial period.

Concurrent President and CEO Gary Trimm said, "Through our relationship with Novell, we are pleased to provide our real-time computing technologies and expertise to offer enhanced real-time capabilities for financial trading and other time-critical applications for customers of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time.”

The enhanced Concurrent real-time kernel for SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 allows individual CPUs to be shielded from interrupt processing, timers and other Linux tasks. Concurrent’s processor shielding provides a highly deterministic execution environment where interrupt response is guaranteed to be less than 30 microsecond on a dedicated processor.

Concurrent's NightStar is a powerful, GUI-based, integrated tool set for developing time-critical Linux applications. NightStar tools run with minimal intrusion, thus preserving application execution behavior and determinism. Users can quickly and easily debug, monitor, schedule, analyze and tune applications in real-time.

NightStar tools reduce test time, increase productivity and lower development costs. Time-critical applications require debugging tools like NightStar that can handle the complexities of multiple processors and cores, multitask interaction and multi-threading. NightStar's advanced features enable system builders to solve difficult problems quickly.

The partnership agreement between Novell and Concurrent remains unchanged. Customers may purchase SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 with the standard kernel or the enhanced kernel directly from Novell or through their Concurrent sales representative.
