Sri Lankan airforce jets today bombed suspected Tamil Tiger targets in the island's east, the defence ministry said. "Kfir attack aircraft bombed a Tiger heavy weapons site" in eastern Batticaloa district, the ministry said in a statement. It gave no details of casualties. The strike came a day after the Tigers said 20 civilians, including five children, were killed in a Sri Lankan airforce raid. However, the ministry denied targeting civilians and said they were targeting a rebel naval base. Army chief Sarath Fonseka recently said the military will move to clear the entire northern region of Tigers after driving them out of the eastern province. Today's air attack came as the country celebrated a key Buddhist holiday, marking Buddha's first visit to the island.
