TEP Joins Other Local Businesses in Spreading Holiday Cheer

By: Industry News

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is one of many local companies donating time and money this holiday season in hopes of bringing some cheer to the less fortunate.

From giving gifts to families in need to volunteering at community events, Southern Arizona businesses are lending significant support to dozens of worthy causes this season.

Because media coverage of such efforts often prompts additional contributions for the benefiting agencies, TEP would like to highlight just some of the upcoming events being supported by Tucson’s business community. Feel free to contact TEP representatives or the listed agency representatives for more information.
Dec. 8 - TEP will host a holiday shopping spree at the Tucson Mall Macy's store to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson. Beginning at 7 a.m., 150 volunteers will help 160 club members purchase $100 in clothing. Funds are provided by TEP, and Macy's is offering shoppers a special 20-percent discount during the event. Local business leaders Jim Click and Jim Pignatelli - TEP's Chairman, President and CEO - are expected to attend the event. For more information, call Elizabeth Bollinger at (520) 573-3533.

Dec. 8 - The Arthritis Foundation's "Jingle Bell Run Walk" will begin at 10 a.m. on the Reid Park soccer field at the northwest corner of South Randolph Way and East 22nd Street. Participants will receive jingle bell shoelaces before the start of the 5-kilometer event. The event raises money for the foundation's efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. For more information, call Lydia Rivera at (520) 917-7070.

Dec. 14 - Local businesses will fill five themed rooms with gifts for 150 young people at a holiday party hosted by Youth On Their Own. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Son Life Chapel, 2955 W. Ironwood Hill Drive. Youth On Their Own offers financial support and guidance to young people who are homeless or living independently without parental support. For more information, call Gina Babunovic at (520) 293-1136, ext. 208.

Dec. 14 - Our Family Services will wrap up its holiday gift-giving program. Volunteers from local businesses have been helping the agency collect holiday gifts and funds for at-risk children, youth and seniors. For more information, contact Janeen Delgado at (520) 323-1708, ext. 105.

Dec. 15-28 - Volunteers from local businesses will help Winterhaven residents collect food and funds for the Community Food Bank during the neighborhood's 57th annual Festival of Lights. Visitors who walk through the elaborately decorated neighborhood are invited to donate cash, checks or nonperishable food items to the Food Bank, which stores and distributes 14 million pounds of food annually to the less fortunate throughout Pima County. For more information, contact Jack Parris at (520) 622-0525, ext. 215.

Dec. 19, 21 - TEP volunteers will wrap and deliver donated gifts to Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care patients. The presents will be wrapped from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the agency's administrative office, 630 N. Alvernon Way. On Dec. 21, volunteers will gather at that office at 8 a.m. before delivering gifts and food boxes to 25 Tucson families. Carondelet's Hospice and Palliative Care helps dying patients and their families meet physical, psychological and emotional needs with medical personnel, counseling, support groups and many other services.
