Targeted Growth Adds Agricultural Technology Veteran as President

By: Industry News

Targeted Growth, Inc. (TGI) today announced that Dr. David McElroy has joined the company as President. His primary responsibility will be to help accelerate the national and international growth of the company as it expands its renewable energy strategy with a focus on developing next-generation feedstocks.

TGI’s patented technologies have demonstrated increased yields of up to 20 percent in crops that produce the feedstocks used for the production of renewable fuels such as Ethanol and Biodiesel.

David has held senior business development roles at Maxygen and then Verdia (which was acquired by Pioneer/DuPont in 2004). David joins TGI after a successful tenure at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. (a subsidiary of DuPont), first as Senior Director of Trait Product Development & Strategy working on various aspects of strategic planning and transgenic trait product development, and more recently as Senior Director of Business Development responsible for trait and technology licensing.

“It has never been more important than it is now to leverage science in the effort to address global issues of food availability and global warming,” said McElroy. “Targeted Growth has a team of extraordinarily brilliant scientists and researchers whose work has the potential to make huge contributions to the future of our planet – it’s exciting to be a part of the team.”

David holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Cornell University and is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics within Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In addition to his scientific expertise, he also brings extensive knowledge of the patent process as the first author of several patents and research papers relating to transgenic plants, particularly maize and rice.

“Simply put, biological material is the basis of the renewable fuels industry,” said Tom Todaro, CEO of Targeted Growth. “By working at the molecular level, our scientists are finding ways to secure, if not increase, the promise for sustainable and renewable energy. We welcome David to the team and look forward to his leadership as we further incorporate our technology into the building blocks of a new energy economy.”

Targeted Growth was founded in 1999 in Seattle. Its research focus has been on developing its proprietary and patented yield technology in the lab and testing it in large-scale field trials. TGI has become a global leader in bioscience, forming strong commercial partnerships with leading agribusinesses.
