Sri Lankan air force jets shelled a suspected Tamil Tiger base in rebel-held Mullaitivu district for the fourth straight day today. The raid "completely destroyed" the LTTE base at Wilawattai in the district, a military spokesman said. Meanwhile, the rebels accused the military of killing two persons and injuring three others in a mine blast in Tiger-held territory. Deep penetration units of the Sri Lankan military triggered a claymore mine in Nedunkerny in the Mullaitivu district targeting a government department vehicle, rebel spokesman Rasiah Ilanthirayan said. He said the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to flush out the undercover military personnel even as the army began long-range shelling.
